Hrádocké Arboretum despite its small area at the moment is unique of its kind in Europe. This statement is the highest located arboretum in Central Europe, the fourth contains the largest collection dendrologic Slovakia. The arboretum are unique taxa of our world and dendroflora which are lists - red book several states, which are in Europe on the northern edge of its natural range (Klokoč, Bladder, ephedra, etc.).
Original botanical park was established in natural landscape style. Smaller, homogeneous and mixed stands of domestic plants interspersed with meadows, which were supplemented siet`ou paths. Approximately 30 species in total amount of about 250 pieces were imported from the Botanical Gardens in Banská Štiavnica (from uvol`nenej area for the new building of the College of Forestry). Later, in the early 20th century, was built in the park lake, which was powered by the river Bela, which vyúst`oval the outflow from the lake.
Flourishing arboretum occurred especially after 1928, when the school led by Bohuslav Walk. This in the years 1920 to 1933 were made many plantations of exotic species and build on the work initiated by Rudolf Benkoom. This period was also based spruce alley at the lake, which gradually became extinct by lightning. In the period around 1922, probably originated in the southeastern part of the crop and the northern red oak stand of Serbian spruce - of about 1936. Among other exotic trees planted during this period are now represented in the arboretum: pichl`avý spruce, balsam fir, Arborvitae, jedl`ovec Canadian, Japanese larch, pine Balkan, acacia and red maple. In 1960 the arboretum took fencing (fence that was preserved till today).
December 1, 1982 the arboretum was declared a protected study area.
Efforts to establish the arboretum related to the establishment of forestry education in Liptovsky Castle. Already in 1796 cities around the first forestry school was built up decorative English park with an area of about 20 hectares. Its base consisted of about 200 better planted in 1777 on the occasion of the first anniversary of the US.
